Police case filed on AP Speaker

Amaravati, March 08: The Andhra Pradesh Speaker Kodela Shivaprasad Rao has received the summons, which is issued by Karimnagar Special Judicial Magistrate (mobile court) on Tuesday.

In response, the court issued summons to Kodela to appear before it on April 20.

It may be recalled here that Singireddy Bhaskar Reddy, a resident of Vavilalapalli of Karimnagar town, lodged a complaint with three town police against Shivaprasad for violating election code of conduct.

In his complaint lodged on June 19, 2016, Bhaskar Reddy alleged that Shivaprasad Rao, in an interview to a television channel, informed that he was elected as an MLA first time in 1983 by spending only Rs 30,000.

However, he had to spend Rs 11.50 crore in the 2014 polls to win which was 40 percent higher than that of an MLA candidate’s expenditure cap fixed by the Election Commission.

As the police failed to register the case, Bhaskar Reddy approached the High Court which referred the case to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

Based on the HC’s instructions, the Chief Magistrate Court forwarded the case to Karimnagar special judicial magistrate court, which is looking after poll-related cases.

Following the directions of the court, Special Mobile PCR Magistrate Satish Kumar registered a case under Sections 171E, 171F, 171H, 171I and 200 of the IPC.
