Bandaru Dattatreya about declining women

Hyderabad, March 08: The Union Minister of Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya had addressed about 'Women and Employability' in a round table conference, which was organised by Union Ministry of Modi government on Tuesday.

Government Officials, Industrialists, Entrepreneurs, Doctors, Lawyers and Other eminent people from various walks of life participated in the conference.

Bandaru Dattatreya, who was the chief guest said India's growth potential being directly impacted by the number of women entering the workforce.The women employment has been declining as compared to many developed countries.

The Union Minister said the roundtable discussion was designed to revolve around creating opportunities for women and making them employable even while discussing the challenges.



In her keynote address, Ms Karuna Gopal, President Futuristic Cities Internationally and Advisor Smart Cities said that the economic prosperity directly impacted the number of women joining the work force. If the female employment rate is increased on par with male rate, the GDP of India could be increased by 27%, she said.

Quoting ILO Report 2016, Ms Gopal said, the report categorically says that there were three very big imbalances as per women were concerned.Women are less likely to have pay jobs, mostly unpaid jobs and women jobs concentrated informal economy.

Globally, 865 million women were immensely contributing to the national economy through the employment emerging developing countries. India one of them. From 1995-2015 the global female labour force participation rate is decreased from 52.4 percent to 49.6 percent. The global gender wage gap is 23 percent, she said.
