Highest Corruption rate only in India

New Delhi/Berlin: India has the highest bribery rate among the 16 Asia Pacific countries i.e.,69 percent of respondents had paid a bribe for public services. It is very shameful thing to our country.

In-depth into the matter, The Transparency International has conducted corruption analysis survey over the Asian countries and found that India nails the corruption and stands the highest in bribing its officials among 16 Asia Pacific countries.

More than 900 million people in 16 Asian Pacific countries are experiencing bribery and corruption, according to a report by Transparency International published Tuesday.

Followed closely by Vietnam (65%). Japan has the lowest rate, with survey results showing only 0.2 %, Pakistan was 40%, China was much lower at 26 %, South Korea also fared well at a mere 3% of the respondents having paid bribes.

It is a little surprise to see that the poor are paying bribe more than the rich in India, whereas, in other countries, rich are spending their money in the form of the bribe than the poor, to get their services done faster and efficiently.

While most of the community is paying the bribe, 63% of the respondents of India still think that they have the power to fight the bribery and that government is positive in eradicating the corruption. On the other hand, 40 of them opinionated that corruption has increased over the last year.

In addition, people under 35 are more likely to pay a bribe for public service and women are almost just as likely as men to pay a bribe. Young men and women, as well as the poor, are hit the hardest by bribery demands.

In Indian corruption, Police dept had leading the most bribery rate of 85% and MPs and judges, magistrates of 76% said in the survey.remaining from education and public services of 59%.

"Governments must do more to deliver on their anti-corruption commitments. It's time to stop talking and act. Millions of people are forced to pay bribes for public services and it is the poor who are most vulnerable," said Jose Ugaz, chair of Transparency International.

Ugaz further added that "without proper law enforcement corruption thrives. Bribery is not a small crime, it takes food off the table, it prevents education, it impedes proper healthcare and ultimately it can kill".
