DGP has warned against women trafficking

Hyderabad, March 05: The Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Sharma has warned of stern action against those involved to brought the women into the prostitution.

Speaking after inaugurating the State-level conference on prevention of women trafficking, organised by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) at Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute, the DGP called for a united effort by all the government departments concerned and the NGOs.

Police department has paid special attention to this area of crime after the formation of Telangana, he said adding that hundreds of victims of human trafficking were rescued by the CID during its recent raids in Maharashtra, Kurnool and Medak districts.

Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General of Police, CID, Soumya Mishra, said that human trafficking was being carried out to make huge and easy money.

"Recently we have rescued from Medak district 30 victims of human trafficking including 10 minor girls who were forced into sex trade. We are doing our best to check human trafficking," she said.

Resource persons explained on the need to prevent human trafficking and shared recent developments in the field of prevention of human trafficking.

They also discussed about various laws and provisions available for effective prevention of human trafficking and also the measures to be taken to rehabilitate the victims and to prevent them from re-trafficking.

State head of UNICEF, Jeroo Master, Secretary of Women Development and Child Welfare, M Jagadeeshwar, Principal Secretary of Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, Rajat Kumar and representatives of various NGOs from across the country spoke on the occasion. About 150 young police officers from all parts of Telangana were also present.
