Talaq in WhatsApp

Hyderabad March 3: A Muslim woman in Hyderabad who was divorced by her husband on WhatsApp has moved Police station for justice.

The 20-year-old woman Moharin, received the three-word text that changed her life. "Talaq, talaq, talaq," said the WhatsApp message from her husband in February month.

She was married at 25 to a man chosen by her affluent family, which lives in Moghalpur Hyderabad.



Even before the WhatsApp divorce, she says, she was regularly harassed and threatened by his family members.

Later she said that she didn't get any message on WhatsApp, then police investigating the case.

According to the officials, "Talaq through electronic means like WhatsApp is misuse. Several scholars are of the view that such people should be punished," says Abdul Hameed Noumani, a leader of the Islamic organisation Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind.
