Anti-Mining boots introduced by Hyderabad-ARCI

Hyderabad, February 28: Have you listen about Anti-mining boots? Let us know about them, which are very useful to destroy the landmines by absorbing huge pressure and reducing to minimum limited Pressure.

Generally, Indian Army personnel and other paramilitary forces facing the threat of landmines in strife-torn areas, including Maoist hotbeds, now have indigenous anti-mine boots from Hyderabad for protection, which will soon be mass produced.

Hyderabad-based International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) has developed a technology that can be used in making anti-mine boots. This might prove a boon for Indian security forces which lose many lives to landmines every year.

"The anti-mine boots, exhibited for the first time at the ARCI TechEx 2017 that began at ARCI, Balapur here on Monday, have been jointly patented by ARCI and Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment(DSMRDE)", ARCI scientists said.

Pressure-absorbent:
Though there were other versions that were earlier made for the Indian forces, including imported ones, none of them had satisfied the Army's qualitative requirements, including those on weight and were subsequently rejected.

The ARCI-DSMRDE boots, scientists said, were just 2.9 kg, compared to the 4 kg ones developed earlier and were capable of absorbing higher pressure and energy, thus providing better protection.

Certification trials at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh had demonstrated a "tremendous reduction of mine blast pressure from 45,000 bars to 160 bars. The usual pressure in the process of mine blasting is a 40-45 bar, which means that these boots are sufficient to minimize grave injuries."

"In other words, instead of death, blown off legs or powdered bones, the personnel may end up, at the most, with a fracture, which too can be a rarity," the officials said.
