No plans for new 1000 rupee note

New Delhi, February 22: A day after reports about Rs 1000 notes coming into circulation surfaced, Secretary Economic Affairs Shaktikanta Das has refuted the view.

Das took his social network Twitter handler, on Wednesday, to issue a clarification on the matter. "We have no plans of introducing new Rs. 1,000 notes," stated Das."

He said that the focus will be on increasing production and supply of Rs. 500 and other notes of lower denomination," Das further clarified.

"I request everyone to withdraw only the amount that is required, since the excessive withdrawal of cash deprives cash for others," Das urged.

"Complaints of cash out in ATMs being addressed. Request everyone to draw the cash they actually require. Overdrawal by some deprives others," he said in another tweet.

As we knew that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes to fight black money and terror funding.

Subsequently, the government introduced new-look Rs 500 notes along with Rs 2,000 notes.
