Joyriding leads to injuries of 12 students

Hyderabad January 31: Youngsters of today have become much passionate about the Bike and Car racings. And they are ending their lives due to the lack of knowledge. All of a sudden accidents are likely to occur and this in the result, hurting their family a lot. A 19 years-old Youth rash driving leads to injuries of 12 students.

Twelve students from the Apollo School of Nursing were injured on Monday morning after a 19year-old youth on a joyride lost control of his vehicle near Shaikpet and hit them.
Four of the wounded students are in a critical condition with head and ankle injuries.

The accused Srikanth, a Filmnagar resident, was arrested later in the day. He confessed taking his father's cab for a ride and did not notice the nurses, when he was speeding across a narrow arterial road, teeming with bikes and people.

The injured students were part of an 85-member group living at the Paramount colony students' hostel near the main Apollo Hospital. They were all assigned duties to trace children for a pulse polio immunisation programme in Jubilee Hills, Shaikpet and Chintal Basti. "We were waiting to get into autos outside a PHC, when a speeding car suddenly came hurtling towards us. Before we could react, the car hit many of us and we all fell down, thinking this is the end. When I regained consciousness, I was in the hospital, with three stitches on my head," said Sumithra, a nursing student.

Immediately after the accident, the youth tried to flee leave a dent, the youth tried to flee leaving the car behind, fearing mob fury. The accused has been booked under Sec 279, 337 and 338 of the the IPC and will be prosecuted, police said. According to Sri Rajeshwari, assistant professor, Apollo School of Nursing, of the injured, seven came from National Mineral Development Corp. Dr. T Vasundhara Tulasi, the school principal, said their parents would travel to the city soon.

Youth should have a correct awareness about driving vehicles.
