More green to Telangana

Hyderabad December 29 : In a bid to turn the city greener to reduce both air and noise pollution,as many as 2.5 crore saplings will be planted during the next Haritha Haram.

Every plant is like a baby.It has to be taken care of well to ensure its survival" an hmda officials S.Madhava rao said.

The "Telangana Ku haritharam" programme was launched by the state govt in 2015 with the idea of increasing the green over of the state from the present 24 percent tp 33 percent as envisaged in the national forest policy of India.

Beautification of 80% of the 158 km long outer ring road has been completed,the remaining portion will be taken up next year.

However,the big plan is to plant 10 crore saplings in four years in and around Hyderabad.

The saplings were planted alongside roads,colonies,in institutions and the road medians.

"The city will be able to see a difference in a few years as not only will it become cooler,air and noise pollution will also be reduced the cause of the increased green cover" said v Damodar,director of urban forest,GHMC.

It was a record of sorts in the city when 29 lakh saplings were planted beyond the planned 25 lakh saplings on July 11.
