Hyderabad Metro to carry heart for transplant

In what could be the first time that the Hyderabad Metro is being used for fast, uninterrupted transport of an organ for transplant, the heart of a 45-year-old brain dead patient is being harvested and taken from Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar to Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills on an exclusive passenger-free Metro train.

The train begins the unique run from the Nagole Metro Station to the Jubilee Hills Checkpost Station after 3.30 pm. The ambulance with the organ will start from Kamineni Hospital around 3.30.pm and will be shifted into the train and it is expected to reach the Jubilee Hills Checkpost Metro station around 4 pm. Dr. AGK Gokhale and his team are accompanying the organ, according to the Apollo Hospitals management.
