History Behind Keshavanath Temple Asifabad

Vajjala Nana Bhat was a Brahmin priest who used to perform the regular pooja for Chinna Swamy in the Brahminvada colony of Asifabad. On a certain day, as he was sleeping, he got a dream. He saw Swamy Keshavnath in it, who told him that, he was lying near the pond in a garbage like place in the town of Sirpur and that he wants him to take him to his village i.e. Asifabad. Sirpur is 42 kms away from Asifabad.

The very next day, Nana Bhat, along with some other villagers, goes to the headman of the village Masade Nanaji. He tells him about the dream he had the last night. He also asks him to provide for him 18 pairs of bullock carts. And Nanaji accepts his request. Nana Bhat along with some other villagers leaves for sirpur and reaches there around 12:15 AM. And as he searches for the Murti of Keshavnatha in the exact place as he saw in the dream he gets that present in a garbage near that area. He takes that Murti to Asifabad around 5:00 AM and puts it near the Peddavagu or the pond there in Asifabad.

After that as soon as possible they construct a platform to place the Murti of Keshavnatha in the Brahminvada colony in Asifabad and do the Murti pratishta.

Just as the residents of sirpur town get to know of this they come asking to return the Murti to them. For this Nanaji tells them that as the Pratishta of the Murti has already happened there's no question of returning it so that they can kindly take the dakshina of five rupees, have lunch there and leave. Otherwise he tells them they can contest it how much ever they want. The sirpur residents accept this, take the dakshina of five rupees, eat and leave.

From that time on, the daily pooja and the other rituals are continuously taking place with the priests being the family members of the Nana Bhat to now Vajjala Sambayya's Son Vajjala Naresh Sharma in the Keshavnath Mandir of Asifabad.
