AP records 1 lakh cases in just 11 days.. This is massive

It seems Andhra Pradesh is surging ahead of all the states and getting closer to Maharashtra in the number of Covid-19 positive cases. On Friday AP's tally passed the two-lakh mark, and state witnessed the biggest spike of 89 deaths in a day. There was an addition of 10,171 cases.

With this AP has been achieving 10,000 plus positive cases on regular basis. Though there have been efforts to contain the deadly virus, the free moving people has been the main cause for this spread. There are not much restrictions on intra-state travel and even inter-state travelling is not restricted. This flow of people from other places is being attributed for the spike in cases, as well as AP was experiencing community transmission of Covid-19 and this was yet another reason for extensive growth in the cases.

Though people point out that since AP was conducting large number of testing, the numbers of cases reported was high! This claim might be right to large extent but there is no contingency plan by the state government to tackle the situation. From the first case reported on March 12, the state's Covid-19 graph peaked to over two lakh cases in just 149 days, witnessing a meteoric rise, particularly in the past three weeks, and reaching the third spot in the country behind Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

After 23,62,270 sample tests, the infection positivity rate climbed further to 8.76 per cent, inching closer to the national average of 8.90 per cent. The recovery rate too improved to 58.21 per cent, but was way below the national average of 67.98 per cent. The Covid-19 mortality rate in the state stood at 0.89 per cent against the national average of 2.05 per cent, the bulletin read.

In 11 days from July 27, the number of cases doubled from 1.02 lakh to 2.06 lakh. From March 12 when it reported the first Covid-19 case, AP took a long time till June 24 to go past the 10,000 mark and July 20 to cross 50,000 total cases But the aggregate rocketed to 1,50,209 by August 1. In just 19 days from July 20, the number of cases rose from 53,724 to 2,06,960. Through lockdown 1.0 (March 24) to lockdown 4.0 (May 31), 3,668 Covid-19 cases were registered in the state.
