Corona Massive Effect on Telangana Villages

Travelling across interior Telangana you will be surprised with boards and bloackages that do not allow people from outside to enter the villages. This is common phenomenon across the state, and they are doing it to protect themselves. The surge in Covid-19 positive cases has prompted several villages to go into self-imposed lockdowns and preventing the entry of vendors from other villages.

With Covid-19 making inroads into the villages, the situation is definitely very grim and also looks like it now unstoppable. "Every third person in the state will be infected by the virus if we continue to go on like this," says the health official in Nalgonda.

Understanding the situation very well, the state government has now decided to conduct rampant testing across the rural areas as well and for this they have equipped the primary health care centres (PHC) as the place where people can get themselves checked for Covid-19.

The health authorities in the state are confirming that over 1500 villages across the state are in the grip of the deadly virus. This is dangerous sign. For a long time, interiors of the state were untouched by Covid-19, while even the district headquarters were reporting cases. People thought at least interior Telangana is safe from all these. With the authorities confirm local transmission numerous villages have become containment zones.

It is said that each of 1500 village has reported more than 20 positive cases. Meanwhile some villages have even reported somewhere between 50-100 cases. This is an alarming situation, which the state government has to take a serious note and start addressing it effectively.

In a report submitted by the state government to centre, it has been estimated that the Covid-19 was likely to spread in 5000 villages. Attributing the labourers as the reason for this rampant increase in Covid-19 cases, the officials said many migrant labourers have returned to villages and they had brought with them the virus!

"Blaming the movement of people, especially the workers, is not an excuse to be given by thegovernment. They need to check people while they arrive into the village and then send him toquarantine, if found symptomatic immediately send him for test and to hospital. Without following these procedures, blaming on the workers is not right," observed the health official.

Answering the official's comments, Hanumanthu from Chembulapalli near Narsapur said, "Till date we were not told of the procedure. Moreover, the village PHCs were getting the equipment for testing and checking fever only now, how could we do it earlier. All the cases that are coming to lightare old ones."

Despite having PHCs do the testing, there is a possibility that we will see surge in cases over the next one month in Telangana villages!
