Former PM Manmohan Singh about Kuldeep Nayyar

New Delhi, Aug 23: As we know that, Veteran journalist and former Rajya Sabha member Kuldeep Nayyar died around 1 am on Thursday in New Delhi. He was 95.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday condoled the death of veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar saying that he served the country in various capacities with great distinction.

In a condolence letter to Nayar's wife, Bharti, Manmohan Singh wrote: "I have learnt with profound sorrow about the sad demise of your beloved husband. He served the country in various capacities with great distinction.

"He was a veteran journalist, diplomat, parliamentarian and author. He wore many hats in his decades of his public life... I write to convey to you and members of your family my heartfelt condolences on this sad occasion."

Born on August 14, 1923, in Sialkot (Pakistan), Nayar was among the country's first syndicated columnists and wrote several books.

According to the sources, His last rites hd been performed at 1 pm today at the Lodhi Road crematorium. Nayar is survived by his wife and two sons.

Nayar also served as India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

A veteran journalist, diplomat, parliamentarian and an author, Nayar wore many hats in his decades of public life.

Nayar was born at Sialkot in Punjab, now a part of Pakistan and studied journalism at the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.
