Hyderabad, Aug 21: The massive flood in Kerala has been declared a calamity of severe nature by the Central government.
At least 100 people have lost their lives in the rains, floods and landslides in Kerala where over 7.24 lakh displaced people have been sheltered in 5,645 relief camps.
It has been estimated that the loss due to the floods is Rs 19,512 crores and the Kerala government faces the gigantic task of rehabilitating the homeless and preventing an outbreak of water-borne diseases.
