Heavy Rains lashed out across Telangana districts

Adilabad, Aug 21: Heavy rainfall continued to lash erstwhile undivided Adilabad on Monday and reportedly claimed its first victim in Indervelli mandal.

The enumeration teams of Revenue and Agriculture officials, to assess crop damage, could not move out because of the rainfall.

A one-hour spell of heavy rainfall dislocated normal life in Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts on Thursday. While Nirmal district experienced no disturbance, the washing away of a temporary diversion road near Jannaram in Mancherial district cut off the Jannaram-Luxettipet road.

A possible mishap was averted near Vaijapur in Adilabad mandal when a car with six passengers got washed away in the swollen local stream. The passengers were all teachers who managed to get down from the car and reach to a safe place just as it began getting into the strong flow of the stream.

The Govt girls school was collapsed in the last night due to continuous rains.

Heavy rainfall lashed almost all parts of the four districts between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. which had water flooding all low lying areas in Adilabad and Ichoda towns in Adilabad district. In Adilabad town, water logging was seen in all main streets posing a problem for road users.

Meanwhile, the current spell of rainfall had hill streams in spate once again and brought fresh inflows into projects. The overflowing Vadgaon stream in Indervelli mandal had Jaithram tanda cut off.

The 40 families inhabiting this hamlet cross the check dam across Vadgaon stream to reach the mandal headquarter. As water was overflowing, they remained cut off.

Adilabad Superintendent of Police announced aid amounting to Rs. 4 lakh to the flood victims in Adilabad and alerted policemen across the district to be ready to provide relief to people who face difficulties. Utnoor DSP N. Venkatesh had a look at the marooned Jaithram tanda and instructed Indervelli SI A. Gangaram to keep a watch on the developments.

Projects received heavy inflows but there was no consistency in the flow. Inflows in Kadem dam in Nirmal district were over 60,000 cusecs at 3 pm. and the surplus discharge of nearly 77,000 cusecs was being made by raising nine floodgates.

The Satnala project in Jainad mandal received 13,500 cusecs but at the peak of the inflows about 21,000 cusecs of water was released to maintain the water level at 285.35 ft against a full reservoir level of 286.5 ft. The outflow at Mathadivagu project was 1,600 cusecs to maintain the water level at 276.5 ft against an FRL of 277.5 ft. while 1,900 cusecs of water were released from Swarna project in Nirmal district.
