Kerala Floods: Mamata Banerjee donates Rs.10 Crores

Kolkata, Aug 19: West Bengal will contribute Rs 10 crore to Kerala as relief fund following the devastating floods, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday.

"My heart goes out to the people of Kerala battling #KeralaFloods. In this hour of crisis, to stand beside the flood-affected people of Kerala, we have decided to make a contribution of Rs 10 crore to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund," Mamata tweeted.

"We are also ready to extend all other assistance and support that may be needed to tackle the calamity," she said in another tweet.

The death toll due to the devastating rains and floods in Kerala increased to 370, as two more deaths were reported on Sunday with rescue operations continuing in the worst affected districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur.

So far, the Centre has mobilized deployment of 339 motorized boats, 2800 life jackets, 1400 lifebuoys, 27 light towers and 1000 raincoats. Further, 72 motor boats, 5000 life jackets, 2000 lifebuoys, 13 light towers and 1000 raincoats are being deployed.

As many as one lakh food packets have been distributed and arrangements are being made to supply another one lakh food packets. Provision has been made for the supply of milk powder as well.

Besides that, the Indian Navy has deployed 51 boats along with diving teams, 1000 life jackets, and 1300 gumboots. It flew 16 sorties in 48 hours in rescue operations.
