Late Actress Silk Smithas Web Series on cards

Hyderabad, Aug 16: With the increase in demand for web series, director Pa Ranjith of 'Kabali' fame is all set to present the life and times of yesteryear's 'item beauty' Silk Smitha in the form of a web series.

Bollywood movie The Dirty Picture may have been one of the most popular films of 2011 but it appears not everyone is convinced that it was an authentic biopic on Silk Smitha's life. Vidya Balan played the role of Silk Smitha and won Filmfare Best Actress Award and also bagged the National Award.

Now according to the latest update Pa Ranjith, who has delivered Kollywood Superstar Rajinikanth starrer Kabali and Kaala, is now all set to produce a web series on the yesteryear actress Silk Smitha. The sources say that the web-series will showcase Silk Smitha's life from her childhood onwards.

The Industry tracker Kaushik LM has confirmed this news as he wrote on twitter, "Interesting! Dir Pa Ranjith is planning to produce a web series on Silk Smitha's life.. Gonna be explosive!"

The web-series will portray the life of an actress who -with her sensuous, dusky face and titillating dancing - ruled over the South Indian film industry for nearly 17 years. Hindi movie The Dirty Picture, directed by Milan Luthria, didn’t portray Silk Smitha's real life and was made without any proper understanding of the way South Indian film industry works. Pa Ranjith is going to spent lot of money for this web series.

Silk Smitha was born on 2nd December, 1960. Her first film was in Malayalam, Innayaihhed. She had a minor role. After delivering her second film, Vandichakram (Tamil film), she became SILK Smitha after her portrayal of an arrack waitress. The role won her tremendous acclaim.

In a career spanning 17 years, she appeared in over 450 films in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi languages. In 1996, Silk Smitha was found dead in her Chennai apartment. She had tried to become a producer but financial problems, a disillusionment in love and an alcohol dependency apparently led to depression. It is suspected that Silk Smitha committed suicide by poisoning herself.
