Chennai, Aug 13: Rift in Tamil Nadu's Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has come to the fore less than a week after the demise of party chief M Karunanidhi as his son MK Alagiri has openly challenged the imminent elevation of his brother MK Stalin.
Alagiri visited Karunanidhi's memorial at Chennai's Marina beach on Monday. Talking to reporters later, Alagiri asserted that "true relatives" and supporters of his father are with his side.
He said his anguish was about the party and not about the family and the public would come to know the whole story at the appropriate time.
Alagiri declined to comment about the DMK's Executive Committee meeting to be held here on Tuesday, stating that he was no more in the party.
Alagiri aspired to succeed to the DMK's top post but Karunanidhi, the DMK President until his death, picked his other son Stalin to lead the party and designated him the Working President.
If at all Alagiri stages a Dharmayudham now it will be a bigger flop than OPS, numbers are clearly with Stalin.

Stalin’s biggest challenge as of now is not Alagiri but to deliver in Thiruparankundram and Thiruvarur bye elections, RK Nagar deposit loss is staring at his face
