Heavy rains in Kerala, 15 Dead

Kerala, Aug 09: The state of Kerala has yet again been hit by heavy rains following which landslides and floods have been reported from different areas of the state bringing normal life to a standstill.

According to the authorities, Fifteen people were killed in rain-related incidents as heavy showers lashed Kerala.

Idukki district remained the worst affected with 10 deaths, of which five from one family lost their lives after their house caved in due to a mudslide.

The other five victims were from Malappuram district who were washed away by the waters of the Chaliyar river that has increased to its highest levels since 1994.

Access to many of these places are difficult and is affecting the rescue operations. Idukki has requested for help and will be receiving one column of Army.

Meanwhile, multiple incidents of landslips have been reported in the rural areas of Kozhikode district. The district administration has sought the support of the National Disaster Response Force following multiple incidents of landslips in the rural areas of Kozhikode.
