Telangana set to celebrate National Handloom Day

Hyderabad, Aug 05: Telangana Government will celebrate "National Handloom Day" in a big way in the state on August 7 by hosting exhibitions, fashion shows, walks/rallies, Handloom dress competitions and essay writings.

The Handloom Day will also witness the felicitation of Handloom weavers and distribution of benefits under the welfare schemes.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, Textile and Handloom Principal Secretary (FAC) Jayesh Ranjan along with Director Ms Shailaja Ramiyer said that the government was taking all steps to promote Handloom in the state during the last three years.

With the efforts of the government, the use of Handloom clothes are increasing gradually in the state, he said and hoped to double the quantity of using handloom clothes in near future.

Mr Ranjan said that few government departments, IT industries employees were wearing Handloom clothes once in a week (Monday). GMR Airport authorities also reacted positively to introduce this system in Hyderabad and New Delhi Airports. Pharma, Tecom operators, Jio also coming forward to encourage handloom clothes." If this trend is continued, definitely the handloom industry income will be doubled in near future", he added.

Eplaining about National Handloom Day programmes, Mr Ranjan said the Handloom Expo will be inaugurated by IT Industry Minister K T Rama Rao at People's Plaza, Necklace Raod here and present Sri Konda laxman Bapuji Award to the eminent handloom personalities. Mr Rao would also formally launch the Handloom waiver scheme at the Expo, he said.
