Hyderabad: Minister KTR launches Disaster Response Force

Hyderabad, Aug 04: Telangana Minister for IT, Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao on Saturday inaugurated the Disaster Response Force of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) near Prasads IMAX theatre in Hyderabad.

With 160 trained personnel and eight vehicles, the Disaster Response Force will reach out to the people, during emergency situations.

Speaking in this regard, KTR said that the Force is meant to respond to any untoward incident in Hyderabad such as building collapse and take necessary measures for safety and security of the people.

Congratulating the GHMC officials for their achievement, he said that this force is one of a kind in the country and hoped for the growth of the programme.

The Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) wing has procured eight vehicles and 11 different types of equipment like generators, rope ladders, fire extinguishers etc. Apart from the colorful vehicles, the personnel of the wing to have been provided with exclusive uniforms.

Already, 44 electrical workers, who have been allocated to EVDM have been trained at Indira Park to help them get acquainted with the use of different equipment, he said.

All the personnel is trained in handling axes, fire extinguishers and other equipment and the procedure to be followed during rescue and relief operations.

These apart, an exclusive command control center, operations monitoring system and conference rooms will be set up on the seventh floor of Buddha Bhavan. The operations and services from this center will be synchronized with GHMC Head Office's Command Control Centre.
