YSR Congress Party MLA arrestesd

Nellore, July 29: The Andhra Pradesh opposition YSR Congress Party MLA representing Kavali R. Pratap Kumar Reddy was taken into preventive custody when he tried to proceed to Isakapalli village of Allur Mandal in Nellore district on Saturday.

A high drama preceded his detention under Section 151 of the CrPC by the Nellore III Town Police, who bodily lifted him out his car when he offered stiff resistance.

The MLA insisted on proceeding to the fishing village after addressing the media at the party office to seek their support in the 2019 elections.

"The MLA has been detained as the villagers fear a law and order problem," said Nellore Rural Deputy SP Raghava Reddy.

Terming his detention as "undemocratic", Mr. Pratap Kumar Reddy said he had every right to visit the village and drum up support for the party.

The YSRCP was trying to strengthen its base in the village, which was once considered a TDP stronghold, as a section of the villagers was unhappy with the ruling TDP, party sources said.
