West Bengal state has changed its name

West Bengal, July 27: Finally, All the political parties in West Bengal approved the name-change of the state to 'Bangla' Today in the Assembly. The name 'Bangla' remains the same in all languages.

Actually, TMC Government-led by Mamata Banerjee suggested three names for West Bengal two years ago - Bangla in Bengali, Bangaal in Hindi and Bengal in English. However, Centre didn't offer clearance citing a state should have one uniform name.

One of the major reasons behind the name change is that West Bengal was placed last in the state lists based on alphabetical order. Which eventually lead to it's CM speaking last in the meetings organized by the Centre.

Left proposed Name Change for West Bengal in 1999 itself. It took so long to convince all the parties about its necessities. Finally, West Bengal will be renamed as Bangla while Centre offers clearance. After the name change, Bangla reaches 4th place in alphabetical order.

Most Bengalis might find it difficult to use Bangla, which is the word used for unbranded liquor which is made locally.
