Former Indian Captain laid foundation stone for athletic stadium

Krishna, July 24: The Former Team India Captain Anil Kumble has laid the foundation stone for the construction of an Athletic stadium in the port town Machilipatnam of Krishna district on Tuesday.

The athletic stadium is being constructed in 13 acres of land at a cost of Rs.15 crore. Later Kumble unveiled the statue of Indian cricket team former Captain Col. C K Naidu in the ZP office premises.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had taken steps that every child has to get access to sports, get nurtured so that the youths could become future Olympians of the country. He wished that the players would bring laurels to the country.

Mr. Kumble said that the statue of Col. CK Naidu would be an inspiration to the upcoming players. Col. CK Naidu was the Indian Cricket team Captain from 1932 to 1934 and he was a native of Machilipatnam town.

Minister for sports Kollu Ravindra, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman Venkanna Chowdary, MD Bangaru Raju and MLC B Arjunudu were among those who are present.
