Union cabinet approves Central University in Andhra Pradesh

New delhi, July 19: , In a good news for AP, The Union Cabinet today approved Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2018 paving way for setting up of Central University, Andhra Pradesh that will start its academic session in next three weeks.


Following the passage of the bill in the Cabinet, Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that it will be first time that a University will start its academic session with a month of the approval.


"In a historic first, Central University of Andhra Pradesh will start academic session on 5th August, 2018. Earlier the practice was different - First the cabinet will take decision, then the bill will be passed in parliament. That meant loss of atl east one year," he wrote on Twitter.


The Minister also added that to save time, the Centre created a different rule which involved forming a society and started the college immediately under the mentor-ship of Hyderabad Central University. This is unique and Andhra People will celebrate," Javadekar said.


Earlier in May this year, the Narendra Modi government had given in-principle a proposal for setting up the Central University in Janthaluru village in Anantapur in the state with a provisioning of Rs 450 crore for its first phase. The University will continue to operate from the "transit campus" till a final campus is ready.
