Hyderabad, July 12: In a significant development, The Telangana government has been preparing 'TS food processing policy' with an intention to enabling farmers to get more income in agriculture and horticulture sectors, Agriculture Principal Secretary C Parthasarathi said here on Wednesday.

Addressing Horticulture research and extension council meet at Centre for excellence at Jeedimetla, he said the new TS processing policy will be prepared on lines with Telangana Industrial policy. "The new policy will be more beneficial for turmeric, lime, mango, paddy and millets cultivators," he said.

He said the government is planning to open processing units in each and every village based on the production of crops, adding that the processing units will be made available for all farmers for all the seasons.

Parthasarathi said Telangana is famous for the cultivation of quality turmeric and it has bright scope for value addition.

The Principal Secretary stressed the need of switch over from traditional paddy crop to other horticulture crops for high income. He said proposals were sent to the Central government for the cultivation of Oil palm in 2.8 lakh acres under Godavari catchment area.

"100 acres land was allotted to Mojerla horticulture university and it will useful for field level research for students, soon the college will get permissions from Indian Agriculture Research Council," he said.

Horticulture Commissioner L Venkatram Reddy explained about the department programme during the council meeting.
