100 years for SV Ranga Rao

Hyderabad, July 03: Samarla Venkata Ranga Rao popularly known as S.V.R. was born on July 3, 1918. He is known for his works (actor, director and producer) in Telugu and Tamil cinema.

Considered as one of the finest method actors in the history of cinema, Rao was widely known as 'Viswa Nata Chakravarthi', 'Nata Sarvabhouma', 'Nata Sekhara', 'Nata Simha'.

All over his Cine career, which extended an outright of 30 years, SVR picked-up several National Honours, International Honours, State Nandi Awards, and the Filmfare Special Award - South.



In 1951, the actor appeared in the fantasy film, 'Pathala Bhairavi' which was screened at the first India International Film Festival, held in Mumbai on 24 January 1952.

Especially the actor-turned-director was known for his natural acting style, portraying complex - social, biographical, and mythological characters such as - "Ghatotkacha" in 'Maya Bazaar' (1958).

"Maya Bazaar" is regarded as the "greatest Indian film of all time" by CNN-India Poll and was screened at the 1957 International Film Festival of India and the Indonesian Film Festival.

The actor who starred in 206 films had produced 4 films and directed two of them. He had his last breath on July 18, 1974.
