International Yoga Day 2018 Highlights

New Delhi, June 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading around 50,000 people in marking the fourth edition of the International Yoga Day on Thursday at the sprawling campus of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday led hundreds of yoga enthusiasts as they practiced 'asanas' on the fourth edition of the International Yoga Day here.

Hundreds had flocked to the sprawling Raj Bhawan that opened its gates to commoners to participate on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering before the commencement of the yoga routines, Adityanath said that in order to remain disease free, the practice of yoga was very fruitful.

The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 after PM Modi called for the day to be adopted as a global celebration of yoga, an ancient practice that began in India more than 5,000 years ago.

Thousands will observe the day with public sessions of yoga and meditation across the country.
