GST officials held surprise checks, 20 cases booked

Hyderabad, June 20: The unique taxation system, Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials have conducted surprise checks on goods carriers at Shamirpet area on Tuesday and booked 20 cases for E-way bill violations.

As part of the E-way system launched across the country on June 1, all vehicles transporting goods worth over Rs 50,000 have to carry an Eway bill. This is applicable to both intrastate and interstate transportation.

GST sleuths of Medchal commissionerate carried out surprise checks on the Chiryal-Shamirpet route at Dongalamysamma area on Tuesday afternoon. Under the supervision of assistant commissioner, Medchal commissionerate, GL Narasimham, they inspected over 70 goods carriers and found violations with 20 of them.

"Some traders had not generated E-way bills while some declared lesser quantity or lesser value of goods to evade tax," the assistant commissioner said. The offenders have to pay Rs 10,000 penalty or the evaded tax plus an equal amount of fine (whichever is greater) to get the goods released.
