Khairatabad Ganesha's model look unveiled

Hyderabad, June 18: Here is the latest update of Khairatabad Ganesha, which will have a new look this year. It will be the ' Saptha Mukha Kala Sarpa Maha Ganapathi' (seven-headed Ganesha) that will bless the thousands of devotees that turn up at pandal for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in September.

The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee on Sunday released the image of 'Saptha Mukha Kala Sarpa Maha Ganapathi'. According to the committee, the height of the idol would be 57 feet and it will be prepared with Plaster of Paris (PoP).

Tamil Nadu-based sculptor C Rajendran, who has been preparing the Khairatabad Ganesha idol for more than three decades, helped artists prepare the image. The preparation of the idol will be taken up under his supervision. "The idea of 'Saptha Mukha Kala Sarpa Maha Ganapathi' was given by chief priest G Vitthal Sharma," Rajendran told media. The theme behind the idol is to provide good future for devotees.

The committee has begun procuring PoP, iron, wooden barricades, gunny bags, clay and coconut coir required to make the idol. The cost of the construction would be around Rs 12 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, said Khairtabad Ganesh Utsav Committee organizer Raj Kumar Singari.

Nearly 60 to 80 skilled workers from Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will take part in the preparation of the idol, the sculptor said.
