Disabilities Bill  expanded from 7-21

New Delhi December 15 : The Rajya Sabha passed the Disabilities Bill here on Wednesday.

Here comes the news that the Disabilities Bill with the list of disabilities expanded from 7 to 21 and the quantum of reservation increased for people suffering from disabilities from 3% to 4% per cent in government jobs.

The increased quota in higher education has been increased to 3% to 5%.

In the Bill, disability has been defined based on an evolving and dynamic concept and the types of disabilities have been increased from existing 7 to 21.

The types of disabilities now include mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, chronic neurological conditions. It also strengthens the office of chief commissioner and state commissioners for Persons with Disabilities, which will act as regulatory bodies.

From this perspective the Opposition itself agreed to get the Bill passed for the benefit of persons with disabilities.
