China updates: Mine blast leaves 11 dead

Beijing, June 06: In a shocking incident, An explosion at an iron ore mining project in China's north-eastern province of Liaoning yesterday killed 11 people and injured nine, sources said.

Another 25 were trapped after the blast, according to online reports by the People's Daily and CCTV. The mine in Liaoning's Benxi city is owned by Huamei Group. Benxi city officials have gone to the site to help with the rescue, sources added.

The officers were rescued by the 23 workers who were trapped in these explosions. About a thousand meters of mine exploded in the incident. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment, officials said.

In December 2016, explosions in two separate coal mines in the Inner Mongolia region and in Heilongjiang province killed at least 59 people.
