Whatsapp digital payment services

New Delhi, May 30: Here is the good news for the WhatsApp Lovers, as the social-networking app owned by Facebook Inc, could start offering payment-related services as early as next week.

According to reports and sources close to the development, the much-anticipated launch of WhatsApp’s payment services which boast 200 Mn users in India will heat up the digital payments spaces in India which is dominated by players like Paytm, MobiKwik and Google Tez.

Sources added that, WhatsApp Pay will partner with banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank to process the transfers, and the State Bank of India (SBI) will join once it has the necessary systems in place.

Many are comparing WhatsApp's entry into digital payment space to that of WeChat which had reshaped payments in China expanding beyond messaging.
