Lightning strikes in Northern India -40 killed

New Delhi, May 29: Around 40 people were killed due to the thunderstorm and lightning strikes across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand today reached 40.

In Uttar Pradesh, ten people died and six were injured in the lightning struck the state at various places on Monday.

High-velocity wind and thunderstorm lashed parts of Jharkhand on Sunday that uprooted dozens of trees and electricity poles and eventually killed 13.

In Bihar, the number of thunderstorm-related deaths today reached 17.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorm and rain accompanied with gusty winds today over some areas in Barabanki, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Azamgarh districts in Uttar Pradesh.

Wind speed is likely to touch 50 km per hour to 70 km per hour. The weather department added that thunderstorm accompanied with squall, gusty winds and lightning is very likely at isolated places over Bihar.

The weather department has warned fishermen to not venture into the sea.
