Pakistan to hold general elections

Islamabad, May 27: According to the sources, President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday approved a summary sent by the Election Commission of Pakistan recommending that the general elections be held on July 25, 2018.

"The president has approved July 25 as the date for holding general elections in the country," a spokesman from Mamnoon Hussain's office told to media persongs here on saturday.

Earlier this week, the ECP had sent a summary to President Mamnoon proposing holding of the 2018 general elections on any date between July 25 and 27.

The five-year term of the country's government and National Assembly ends on May 31, after which an interim prime minister and administration will take over.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and opposition leader Khursheed Shah have yet to agree on who will be the caretaker.

About 105 million voters will use their voting rights across the country.
