Telecom companies got merged; bad time for 700 employees

New Delhi, May 17: As we know that, Department of Telecommunications(DoT) has approved the merger of two telecom companies Airtel and Telenor here on May 15.

This merging has become bad luck to the Telenor employees, while the giant telecom network operator Bharti Airtel has asked over 700 Telenor employees to leave the company.

The Telenor employees got emails from Bharti Airtel asking them to attend a meeting with the HR officials to discuss "way ahead and next step", an employee working for the Norwegian telecom company's Indian subsidiary in Andhra Pradesh circle said.

Confirming the move, Airtel said, "not all people from Telenor India will find meaningful roles within Airtel".

The company has offered five months' salary as severance, even while some of the employees are not ready and some are demanding a year's salary, the source said.

An Airtel source said Telenor India has around 1,400 employees and 700 of them had been absorbed.

Confirming the news, Bharti Airtel said all people from Telenor India may not be absorbed. "It's inevitable that in a post-integration scenario such as this, not all people from Telenor India will find meaningful roles within Airtel," a spokesperson from Bharti Airtel said.

"We are ensuring that these people get appropriate support such as continued financial and medical allowances along with the assistance of our placement partners," the spokesperson said.
