Heavy Rains lashed out at AP coastal areas, 6 killed

Vishakapatanam, Apr 26: In tragic incidents, At six people were killed and two others injured after lightning strikes in coastal Andhra Pradesh, in the districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

According to media reports, four people including a 54-year-old woman and her nine-year-old grand-daughter died in a lightning strike in Vizianagaram district, while two people died and two persons were injured in Srikakulam district.

This came even as the coastal city of Visakhapatnam received heavy rain and thunderstorms.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers very likely to occur at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh. Maximum temperatures likely to be around 42 to 43 degree Celsius over some parts of state," a bulletin for Wednesday from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated.

In a related development, the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam said that thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds is likely to occur at isolated places over the state with sea conditions expected to be rough for 12 hours.
