Shiv Sena leader Sachin Sawant shot dead in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 23: Shiv Sena leader Sachin Sawant was shot dead by two unidentified assailants on Sunday evening in Mumbai.

According to various media reports, Sawant was an up-shakha pramukh (deputy branch head) for Shiv Sena, and was slated to be promoted to shakha pramukh soon.

The incident occurred at around 8pm on Sunday, when Sawant was riding pillion on a motorcycle in Kandivili (East).

The Sena leader heard someone call out to him from behind and turned to find two men on another motorcycle pulling over. The two men leaned towards him under the pretext of whispering something in his ear, but shot him in the chest instead.

Sawant was rushed to a nearby private hospital immediately but was declared dead on arrival. Media reports said he was shot between four and six times, but the police did not divulge any details.

The cops are still waiting on the autopsy, which is scheduled for Monday, and have already begun a manhunt for the assailants. They haven't yet identified the motive behind the murder.
