New Delhi, Apr 13: In cheating case, Cyber Crime team of Delhi police have arrested a man who duped as country head of an international sports channel here on Thursday.

Police said that the accused Anurag Mendiratta, 41, a resident of Dwarka in south-east Delhi, has been arrested for duping two women in separate cases. One of the cases was registered with the Cyber Cell, while the other was registered at Chittaranjan Park police station in south east Delhi.

In addition to impersonation, Mendiratta also went on to sexually assault victims whom he found on different online matrimonial sites. He even emotionally blackmailed by telling them that his father was suffering from a life threatening disease and ask for money from them. Once the money was transferred, he would vanish.

"The accused used to be virtually present in a foreign country and call the victim through caller ID spoofing, which showed the number to be of a foreign country, though he was present in India. This way he was able to emotionally exploit the victims and ask for money for the cancer treatment of his father," said Anyesh Roy, DCP (Cyber Crime).

The victim woman deposited Rs 6 lakh in the recommended account. After this, the accused began avoiding her and even verbally abused her. On this, the complainant got suspicious and went to Mumbai to meet him with her family. There they came to know that no such person by the name of Siddharth Walia is working or staying in Mumbai.

Sensing trouble, she contacted Delhi police. He was arrested by Delhi police and was subjected to intensive interrogation during which he disclosed his criminal plot.

He had exploited one more girl on similar pretext where he had even resorted to blackmail, extortion and assault.
