TSTDC bans Plastic at Tourism spots

Hyderabad, Apr 08: In order to reduce the usage of plastic, The Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Limited has proposed that in all the TSTDC Properties which including hotels/resorts, boating, sound and light, eco-tourism and among others in the state is set to implement a ban on most types of non-reusable plastics.

In a statement here on Saturday, TSTDC Limited Managing Director B Manohar said that would, roll out a ban that including single-use plastic bags and disposable containers and utensils certain exemptions would be allowed for packaging for food and other goods.

To increase the ban's effectiveness in the hotels of TSTDC would be pushing an awareness campaign to make sure people are prepared once the new laws are enforced. The following year the TSTDC Ltd., banned single-use plastic bags under 50 microns. Previous efforts to ban plastic bags had little impact because of limited enforcement and a lack of awareness about why the ban was important.

Across India many plastic bag bans having recently taken effect, reflecting a nationwide desire to take on the growing issue of plastic pollution and waste management. While there are regions where bans have had the desired effect, the challenge has been in effective and consistent enforcement.

At a meeting with the officials Mr Manahor said that the TSTDC Ltd, was determined to succeed besides the awareness campaign and reaching out to the unit level, and pursuing awareness to the visitors of the Hotels that take the initiative and tackle plastic pollution themselves.
