David Warner Steps Down as Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain

New Delhi, Mar 28: Australian elegant Player David Warner has stepped down as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Indian Premier League franchise announced on Wednesday.

Warner, 31, had earlier temporarily resigned as Australia's vice-captain during the third Test against South Africa after the team was embroiled in a ball-tampering controversy.

The decision has come after Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft and Warner had garnered widespread criticism for hatching a plan to alter the condition of the ball during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town. Earlier Steve Smith too had stepped down from the position of Rajasthan Royals' captain.

SRH CEO K Shanmugam took to Twitter and made the announcement. He wrote, β€œIn light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of SunRisers Hyderabad. The new captain of the Team will be announced shortly.” – K.Shanmugam, CEO, SunRisers Hyderabad."
