Modi urges Meghalaya, Nagaland to vote

New Delhi, Feb 27: Polling began in the north-eastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland this morning, days after assembly elections in Tripura

The results for the Assembly elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be announced along with Tripura on 3 March. In both the states, the BJP is contesting the long-standing stints of the Congress and the Left Front, respectively.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the people of Nagaland and Meghalaya to come out and vote in large numbers for the assembly elections.

Modi tweeted as the polling for both 60-seat Houses began in the Northeastern states at 8am.

Speaking to media, Nagaland's Chief Minister TR Zeliang said: "We expect that polling will finish smoothly and we (Nagaland People's Front) will get absolute majority as per voice of the people. We hope peace will prevail in the state and we will move for Naga political solution."
