DOT Clarifies on 13 digit mobile Number

New Delhi Feb 23: The Department of Telecom (DOT) had clarified that personal mobile numbers would not contain 13 digits. earlier there was a widespread news in social media that All mobile numbers would be changed from 10 digits to 13.

Earlier the DOT had issued a notice that all Sim Cards used in M2M Communication to migrate to 13 digit numbers from OCT 1 and the migration to be complete by Dec 31, 2018.

The DOT has said that "The order issued was only for M2M mobiles and not for regular mobile sim and the number of digits of regular sims wouldn't be changed".

Officials said that "Special sims will be used in M2M Mobiles which would be used in swipe machines, cars, electricity meters etc. M2M is a technology that leverages connected devices to remotely work or talk to each other via a wireless network. The Technology would be also helpful in Smartwatches and Internet of Things (IoT) based applications".
