Supreme Court deferred hering on demonetisation

New Delhi, Dec 5 : The Supreme Court will hear on Friday a batch of petitions challenging the demonetization decision, as well as the Central government's plea seeking the transfer of cases filed before different High Courts and subordinate courts either to the apex court or the Delhi High Court.

The matter which was listed for hearing Monday was adjourned for Friday by the bench of Justice A.M. Khanwhilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud as Chief Justice T.S. Thakur who heads the bench was on leave.

The bench of Chief Justice Thakur and Justice Chandrachud had on December 2 directed the hearing of the petitions - both challenging the demonetization and those by the Centre seeking the transfer of case spread across the country - for Monday.

The Court had on December 2 asked Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi and senior counsel Kapil Sibal to sit together and categorize the different cases on the basis of their commonality so that the hearing of the matter could be streamlined.

The court had directed the categorization of cases as different petitioners before the top court, different High Courts sand the Subordinate Courts have challenged different dimensions of the demonetization decision or the issues arising out of it.
