Telugu Comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao passed away

Hyderabad, Feb 19: The Popular well-known Telugu cinema comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao passed away in the wee hours of Monday in Hyderabad. He was 61.

Hanumantha Rao was ailing for some time with a kidney problem and passed away at his home at 3 a.m., according to family sources. He is survived by a son. His wife predeceased him.

The actor was facing a financial crisis, following which the state government and actor Chiranjeevi came forward to help with his treatment expenses.

Born in Vijayawada on October 10, 1956 in a middle class family, Mr. Rao dabbled with theatre from a young age. The first role he essayed on stage was in a play called Ravana Brahma in Vijayawada.

He got a big break when movie maker Jandhyala offered him a role in Aaha Na Pellanta(1987) where he played a groom's father who is hard of hearing. But it was his roles in TV serials like Amrutam which earned him acclaim and awards including three Nandi awards. He acted in over 400 movies.

He acted in films like Pellaniki Premalekha Priyuraliki Subhalekha, Rajendradu Gajendradu, Mayaloodu, Jodi No.1, Nenu Seetamahalakshmi, Kedi No.1, Apparao Driving School, Kalyanam, Original, Neramu Siksha, High School, Kothoka Vintha, Colors, Panchamukhi, Sri Sai Sankalpam, Mano Balam among many others.

The Telugu film fraternity and the Movie Artistes Association have expressed their condolences at the untimely death of Hanumantha Rao.

The final rites are likely to take place at Erragadda Burial Ground in SR Nagar.Many film and TV actors are expected to turn up to pay their last respects.

Meanwhile, several users took to Twitter and expressed grief at the demise of the actor.
