NITI Aayog,DST  to formulate policy on research of Robotics,AI

NewDelhi Feb 3: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday has presented the budget and the government has made special emphasis on adopting new technologies to the country. The Finance minister has said that NITI Aayog would formulate a policy to adopt AI in the economy.

Jaitley said that "Global economy is transforming into a digital economy thanks to the development of cutting-edge technologies in digital space- machine learning, artificial intelligence, internet of things, 3D printing and the like. "

"Initiatives such as Digital India, Start-Up India, Make in India would help India establish itself as a knowledge and digital society. NITI Aayog will initiate a national program to direct our efforts in the area of artificial intelligence, including research and development of its applications," he added .

Jaitley added that "To invest in research, training, and skilling in robotics, artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing, big data analysis, quantum communication and internet of things, Department of Science & Technology will launch a Mission on Cyber-Physical Systems to support the establishment of centers of excellence. I have doubled the allocation on Digital India programme to RS 3073 crore in 2018-19."

Experts have welcomed the proposal and said that this would ensure that more research would be done in adoption of the Artifical Intelligence and Robotics without loss of jobs as there is a huge
unemployment problem in the country.
