CID raids ex-IPS officer and inspector house- gold and cash seized

On Friday, CID of West Bengal searched South Kolkata residence of an IPS officer Bharati Ghosh and house of an inspector Pradip Rath following a complaint by a businessman.

An unspecified amount of gold and cash were seized in the two raids. In his complaint, the businessman said that Ghosh and inspector Pradip Rath extorted a large amount of gold and cash.

Ghosh, who was superintendent of police in the district, resigned on December 28 last year after she was transferred to Barrackpore in the North 24 Parganas as commandant of the third battalion of the state armed police. She could not be contacted for comments despite several attempts.

Senior police officers in West Midnapore said the CID team recovered a huge quantity of cash and gold from the home of Rath, the officer in-charge of Belda police station. Rath allegedly could not give a satisfactory reply when asked to declare the source of the valuables and money.
