Even though it was second day for filing the nominations in Nagaland for Assembly elections scheduled for February 27, no candidate filed papers. Additional chief electoral officer of Nagaland N Moa Aier informed the same.

Even though the all parties have signed a joint declaration according to which no party will contest election till Naga issue is solved, election commission has issued official notification and opened nomination filing.

A 12-hour bandh was called in the state by the Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) today to protest the issuance of the official notification for the Assembly election.

However, the BJP on Thursday announced that it would contest the polls. BJP too had signed agreement just three days ago- the joint declaration by all political parties, both national and regional, on January 29 in the state not to contest the elections in solidarity with the general call of the Naga tribal organisations and civil societies.
