Jio to launch cheaper smartphone

Mumbai Jan 31: In yet another move to disrupt the telecom Sector Reliance Jio is planning a new initiative.Sources said that Jio has decided to launch ultra-low-priced Android Go OS-based 4G VoLTE smartphone under the LYF brand in partnership with Taiwanese chipset maker MediaTek

Company officials feel that this move would ensure that more customers would subscribe to the Jio.Sources added that the company may follow a similar approach it had adopted in launching jiophone - A 4G feature phone which can be used by rural people and the company has also reduced the plan charges recently.



Sources said that the smartphone prices would be below Rs 1500 and they may be subsidized by offering cash backs and this would ensure that more people would use cheaper smartphones.The Company has already started talks and may soon announce the launch of phones.
